Where to Buy Earthwise Seed (and What a Project Actually Costs)
Earthwise mixes are sold direct at earthwiseseed.com. The more useful question is the second one — what a given patch of ground actually costs to seed — so this page answers it in numbers you can check against your own square footage before you buy anything.
First, work out your square footage and your rate
Every Earthwise bag carries two coverage figures, and confusing them is the most expensive mistake on this page. Bare soil takes roughly 2.5× the seed that overseeding an existing lawn does. Low Grow and PetLawn each cover 400 sq ft on bare ground or 1,000 sq ft overseeded, from the same 1 lb bag. Microclover covers 500 sq ft bare or 1,000 sq ft broadcast. FireGuard is quoted directly as a rate: 2–3 lb per 1,000 sq ft.
Measure the area, decide bare-versus-overseed honestly, then pick the bag size from the table below rather than from the shelf price.
What it costs per 1,000 sq ft, bare soil
- White Dutch Clover — 1/2 lb covers 1,000 sq ft, $7.95. 5 lb covers 10,000 sq ft, $49.95.
- Tri-Clover — 1/2 lb covers 1,000 sq ft, $9.95; sow 1/4–1/2 lb per 1,000 sq ft, or 8–10 lb per acre.
- Low Grow — 5 lb covers 2,000 sq ft bare, $69.95 (~$35); 25 lb covers 10,000 sq ft, $199.95 (~$20).
- PetLawn — 5 lb covers 2,000 sq ft bare, $59.95 (~$30); 25 lb covers 10,000 sq ft, $199.95 (~$20).
- EcoSeed — 5 lb covers 1,000 sq ft, $35.95; 25 lb covers 5,000 sq ft, $119.95 (~$24); 50 lb covers 10,000 sq ft, $199.95 (~$20).

Two things fall out of that list. The clovers are the cheapest route to an alternative lawn by a wide margin, and the natives are the most expensive to establish — but the per-1,000 figure roughly halves at the 25 lb size, so on anything above about 5,000 sq ft the bulk bag is the real price.
Worked example: a 2,500 sq ft front lawn
Bare soil, seeded in EcoSeed: two 5 lb bags plus a 1 lb top-up, about $82. The same area in Ultimate Clover: a 5 lb bag covering 2,000 sq ft plus a 1 lb bag, about $110. In TrueGrass: a 5 lb bag covers exactly 2,500 sq ft at $269.95. On a slope, add Seed-Tac — 1 lb covers 500 sq ft at $11.95, or 10 lb covers 5,000 sq ft at $59.95, roughly $12–24 per 1,000 sq ft.
Bulk and acreage
Acre-scale bags exist across the range: White Dutch Clover at $350 for 50 lb (1 acre), Meadowscaping Mix at $995 for 50 lb (1 acre), Southwest Native Meadowscaping Mix at $995.95 for 50 lb, and TrueGrass at $1,695 for 50 lb covering 25,000 sq ft. Southwest Native Meadowscaping Mix broadcasts at 1 lb per 1,000 sq ft or drills at 20–30 lb per acre.
Where we are honestly not the answer: multi-acre native restoration, custom ecotype specification, or drill-seeded conservation plantings. That is the native seed trade's work, and specialist suppliers price it by the pound for a reason. Earthwise mixes are built for homeowner-scale ground — yards, verges, slopes and meadows measured in thousands of square feet, not hundreds of acres.
Pet-safe and fire-resistant, specifically
PetLawn is the pet-traffic mix: roughly 70% tall fescue with clover, germinating in 7–14 days, 1 lb covering 400 sq ft bare. FireGuard is the fire-resistant option, applied at 2–3 lb per 1,000 sq ft with a 2–5 week germination window — plan the planting date around that, not around the delivery date.

Check the region rating on the mix you want: Microclover is rated for regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 (6 under irrigation), and Tri-Clover for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7, plus 5 and 6 in shade. Then order the bag size that matches your measured area at the correct bare-or-overseed rate.
